We have an immediate need for a Engineering Section Head- AEROSPACE

JOB DESCRIPTION
This position will have multiple site responsibilities and coordination for all mechanical packaging of electronics and electrical systems for the Aerospace Electronics Function that serves the Aircraft Group (AG) and Space and Defense Group (SDG).

? Provide effective technical leadership to a cross-site and cross-group section of creative engineering subordinates for a coordinated approach to the design and development of electronics packaging.

? Develop technology road maps for IR&D activities by integrating the product line visions for growth in electronics packaging. This is comprised of, but not limited to thermal conditioning (passive and active approaches, heat pipes, phase change materials) and materials and processing techniques (composites for weight, thermal, mechanical stress, EMI and manufacturing improvements.)

? Manage the appropriate engineering staffing levels across the sites by developing the section resources and by leveraging the capability of other company Groups and external consultants. This includes setting tactical priorities on programs as well as facilitating the career growth and development of subordinates through routine feedback and reviews.

? Develop the standard processes and tool strategies for the section to assure successful program execution to performance, cost and schedule.

? Develop the budget for the section to achieve the functions annual objectives.

? Collaborate as integral member of management leadership team for steering and incorporating functional objectives.

? Guide the collaboration of resolutions to major customer technical and process issues internal or field related through trade studies, design proposals or audits and corrective actions.

? Develop and maintain key relationships and communication with cross ?site and group managers, business unit managers, customers, partners and strategic suppliers that the section interfaces with.

? This position requires frequent travel (10-15 times per year) to support section staff and programs located throughout the company?s Aircraft and Space & Defense Group sites.

? Strong leadership and management skills as evidenced by past achievements and promotions.

? Must be an expert in the integration of aerospace or military electronic hardware.

? Must have broad knowledge of packaging high power equipment (motor drives power supplies) and implementation of heavy , lossy power components utilized with these equipments (EMI filters, IGBTs, Magnetics, sensors) and embedded processing (DSP?s, FPGAs).

? Experienced in box chassis design with working knowledge of brazed aluminum, sheet metal and hogged out aluminum assemblies as well as knowledge and experience in composite/plastic housings to reduce weight and improve thermal, EMI performance.

? Working knowledge of the following toolsets: Unigraphics for 3D modeling, SINDA for thermal, ANSYS for thermal and structural FEA, Betasoft for circuit card thermal analysis.

? Experience conducting Englemeier thermal stress and Steinberg vibration stress analyses on printed wiring assemblies.

? Essential to have an aerospace or military background in manned applications. Both Military and Civil aircraft experience highly preferred.

? Experience designing Aerospace and military electronics boxes for exacting thermal and vibration environments. Would expect to have experience in designing boxes with only conduction or active cooling (liquid and force air) boundary conditions and in the selection and integration of vibration isolators.

? Experience designing electronic boxes and wire cabling to pass Mil-std-461 and Do-160 EMI, EMC, EMP and lightning requirements.

? Must demonstrate working knowledge of critical trade space parameters for medium power systems ( 10-80 HP) to meet system technical performance as well as thermal, volume, weight, reliability, noise management and cost.

? Ability to measure and evaluate the status of design projects relative to their schedule, cost, technical objectives and conformance to contract requirements.
? Strong background experience in directing the allocation of resources to ensure that the needs of the program development and production are met for specification compliance, product integrity and cost effectiveness.

? Ability and aptitude in tactical project planning to establish problem statement, conceive potential hardware solutions and direct trade studies to a defined budget and schedule. Accountable for managing and mitigating technical risk for mechanical packaging designs across the product lines.

? Experience in developing efficient dept processes and standards to minimize errors, assure design integrity and reduce costs.

? Must understand and preferably have experience working in a company that works in teams and executes decisions by first building consensus. A participatory management style is essential for both success and growth within the company. Candidates that solely exhibit an unilateral management style will not considered for the position.

? Leadership aspiration will be a hallmark of the ideal candidate.

? The candidate should have no restrictions preventing them from working on classified US military programs. Having a Secret clearance preferred.

Scope: The Mechanical Packaging for Electronics Section Manager is one of the seven section manager positions that comprise the electrical disciplines within a matrix managed engineering function. The other sections are Digital, Analog, Motors, RF, Power and Components. Three functional managers comprise the other half of the matrix. The electrical Chief Engineer resides over all ten managers. At a high level the Functional Managers are more customer focused and cover the ?What, When and Why?. The Section Managers are discipline focused and cover the ?Who, How and Where?. The electrical function is comprised of approximately 160 engineers, supporting 14 business units, which are part of another larger engineering matrix that captures the other engineering functions of mechanical, systems, software, hydraulics, product development & delivery. All of these engineering functions are supported by a network of cross group and cross site departments that provide drafting, lab technician, reliability, logistics, production, manufacturing and purchasing support.

? Possess an advanced degree (MS or MBA) with a minimum of fifteen years relative electronics packaging engineering experience.
